Praise for Two Degrees
See what the Critics are Saying:
"Ried manages to juggle multiple third-person perspectives throughout the novel, to develop aspects of Daniel’s personal journey… in an earnest and ambitious espousal of climate justice and environmental stewardship, and an intriguing political thriller that doesn’t shy away from difficult topics." – Kirkus Reviews
“Original, exceptional, compelling, deftly crafted, a prophetic story of redemption and the fight for our dying planet, author William Michael Ried's novel, Two Degrees, puts Daniel Lazaro and the fascinated reader at the intersection of power politics and climate change, where a collision is inevitable and tragic. Two Degrees is especially and unreservedly recommended.” – Midwest Book Review Small Press Bookwatch
“Ried masterfully weaves a compelling thriller that confronts climate change, corporate greed, and the preservation of the planet. Two Degrees combines suspense, environmental activism, and personal redemption, which captivates the reader, prompting reflection on the real-world implications of our choices, leaving no doubt that the ongoing battle to preserve our planet for future generations is in our hands.” – Booklife Reviews
“I loved the masterful storytelling in this novel, and the redemption story as Daniel had to overcome insurmountable odds to make things right within his soul. This was a great novel, and I can't wait to see more from the author.” – Midwest Book Awards, Judges’ Feedback
“At its core the book seemed less about climate change and ecology than it was about an individual searching for meaning in a shattered life and what his true role in life could and ought to be, and it does an excellent job.” – B.R.A.G. Medallion Reviewer
“A fascinating tale of climate change, politics, greed, terrorism, relationships, deception, betrayal, and redemption. Plenty of drama and conflict move the story at a fast pace.” – B.R.A.G. Medallion Reviewer
“An intelligently written novel that displays a healthy knowledge (and much research) of the political aspects of climate change, which makes for serious reading, but with a well-crafted main character who provides that personal touch of personal tragedy and a journey of discovery.” – B.R.A.G. Medallion Reviewer
“Ried's environmentally driven plot is timely and compelling. Ried is a master at staging scenes, and his eloquent, striking descriptions give Two Degrees added depth while transporting readers directly into each scenario.” – The BookLife Prize

5.0 out of 5 stars Exhilarating from start to finish
What a ride! From the earliest pages, I was hooked. Ried crafts a fascinating tale of growth around his characters. He details interesting and probable progressions of the climate crisis, disasters and protests. It is a gripping tale of fiction that reads like it’s ready for the silver screen. This was my first of Ried’s novels. It won’t be my last. - Goodreads Reader
5.0 out of 5 stars A Cli-Fi with Energy, Heart, + redemption
I have a hard time reading a book from start to finish, EVER! This book I could not put down until I was done and the cover was almost torn off (probably from the tension in my hands as I gripped the only thing I could as I read/lived through the lives of climate change activist, Washington insiders, and "big oil" lobbyists.) Bill Ried has written a fast pace (important for me) climate action story with a great mixture of science, deception, love, and redemption! I'm ready to sign up for my local "eco activist" chapter as well as Bill's next book! - Amazon Reader
5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling
A very enjoyable read. Danger, cliff-hanging suspense, compassion and heart break, the story runs the gambit of emotions and energy. The characters draw you in and the story’s tension takes hold. A story that is both relevant and enlightening. The Daniel’s story arc gives hope that real climate change is possible if enough people actually got involved. - Amazon Reader

It just kept on heating up. A thought provoking tale that touches on heavy topics, pulling at the heart strings and leaving you looking to the future with hope that we can turn our own story around before fiction becomes reality. It's a story that grabs your attention and doesn't let up until you're completely immersed, wanting more, but realizing there's nothing left to give. - Amazon Reader

5.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing and thought provoking
From the first page, this story grabs you and doesn’t let go. This is a classic hero’s journey. That said, the story is thought-provoking, with much information about climate change and the consequences of human intervention. The transformation of Daniel from a driven corporate lawyer to a revolutionary is well-written and thoroughly believable. This is a great read. - Bookbub Reader

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Page Turner
I've enjoyed all of Bill Ried's work and he's outdone himself with Two Degrees. He creates a world and characters that simply want you to read more. I devoured Two Degrees and wanted more. This book is also an incredible insight on how "the machine" operates and of those who oppose it. You can tell it's well researched and so well written. For anyone interested in Cli-Fi this is a read for you. And for those that aren't it's still a must read. It is clever, nuanced, and interesting. I can't recommend it enough. - Amazon Reader
