FIVE FERRIES PUBLISHED OCTOBER 4

Debut Novel Published After 40 Years

New York, NY October 4, 2018. Author William Michael Ried, in conjunction with CKBooks Publishing, today published Five Ferries, his first novel, forty years in the making.

Five Ferries began in 1978 as a memoir about a hitchhiking trip in Europe. In the early 80s the only copy of the manuscript was stolen from a car and the story died. But in the late 80s the author resurrected the story and turned the memoir into a novel.

Stephen Kylemore escapes a country and a family torn apart by the Vietnam War and, buoyed by his love of literature and a dream of living an odyssey of his own, buys a one- way ticket for the journey he will come to call “Europe on No Dollars a Day.” He joins young people from around the world on a road with no clear destination. He hitchhikes, sleeps in the woods, looks for work and trades one paperback novel for another to maintain his alternate reality. He finds instant friends and transient romance, and is amazed at how strangers help him along the way. His months of travel inevitably reveal the circle of life and force him to confront the tension and the passion he left behind.

One reader review on Amazon said: “ The thing that I love about this book is that, in it, I found myself a new traveling companion. In a book about physical and life-travel, I found comfort and friendship through characters that blended reality and fiction... it is part travel guide, life-guide, food for the soul, fantasy...”

The paperback can be ordered in the U.S through Amazon or worldwide through bookstores (ISBN 9781949085020). The e-book is available worldwide through Amazon, Smashwords, and other distributors (ISBN 9781949085013).
